You seem to have a lot of potential but you appear to need much stronger reference material.

I recommend getting art influences outside of animation, comics, anime, ect

Study the influences of your favorite artists as well.

You are already studying the classics such as Dragonballz and other older cartoons.

Add real life as an extra influence to add more accurate anatomy to your drawings.

Study how real people look and human anatomy will become much easier to stylize.

study the muscles in arms, legs, torso and how they fit together.

Study the human face to understand how the facial features connect together.

Study everything until you don't need the reference anymore.

You already built a lot of muscle memory from drawing dragonballz characters.

You will already naturally get better at drawing dragonallz characters but you can always excel farther.

You can also study lights and shadows.

Think about where the light is coming from before adding shadows.

The shadow on frieza's neck and under the face does make a lot of sense.

I seen shadows on the necks of real people before.

observe real life and compare it to anime.

You will notice that a lot of anime uses real life observation in it's drawings sometimes.

You got some really great early work.

You'll create brilliant work with a bit more slickness and refinement.

Keep going.

Thank you for this advice. I will do better (Or at least a little) on my next animation. This is a dumb excuse but I started animating for about a week but I am getting the hang of it and I am glad I found Newgrounds. People like you telling me how to make my animations better is what I need. And again I thank you for this advice.

Most of The Story was told on it's visuals alone.

a lot of information comes from Character poses and emotion.

I would love to see an English Translation of the text based dialogue.

I might be missing some important information.

The lost information didn't subtract from overall movie.

It was a very enjoyable skit.

The Girl's had some very cute character designs.

I really liked the simplicity in these designs.

The proportions were drawn in a very cute.

I would recommend adding a bone between the shoulders and arms.

That will make the anatomy perfect in these drawings.

It will also allow for more freedom of motion.

Everything in cartoons has anatomy including stick figures.

Anyways, You did a great Job with creating a very funny skit.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

FantHarubi responds:

Thanks for the observation and the advices. That helps me a lot :)

This is really cool concept.

This old movie shows many of the same signs of enthusiasm as your current work.

Not many Artists can maintain the same level of enthusiasm for Three Years Straight.

Discouragement off of others will often slow down the improvement of any Artist.

Drawing everyday can really do wonders.

You gotten better at controlling the details in your artwork.

I really love the ambition in this piece.

It was very entertaining.

SonnyFern responds:

This was one of the first shorts I ever did! You can really see the difference between this and my newer stuff! Glad you took a look at it!

Most people will never make a feature length Animated movie.

Even less people will Animate a Feature Length movie by themselves.

It takes a lot of commitment to create any animation at all.

Your current artwork has became more slick and polished when compared to your previous Movies.

You taught yourself a lot of new skills animating a movie by yourself.

I'm impressed with your level of passion.

Keep going.

Your work continues to get better and better.

SonnyFern responds:

I started LVV about 4 years ago, it's literally the first thing I ever animated, so you can watch my skills get better and better as it goes on!

This entire thing is available here, in full or individual episodes, it's also going to be up on Amazon Prime as soon as I get the captions done!

The drawings could still use a bit more refinement but the actual Animation compensates for these flaws.

You managed to move the characters at all angles.

I often seen stuff by far more professional artists stick with a limited vocabulary of angles, tricks and short-cuts.

The work of many professionals will never get better because they stay inside their comfort zone.

You weren't afraid of hard to draw angles.

You weren't afraid to make mistakes and try new things.

You're level of enthusiasm is astounding.

Keep going.

SonnyFern responds:

Thanks for the helpful criticism! I'm not planning on stopping any time soon :- )

I really love watching animation in the horror genre.

The muted colors really adds a certain creepy vibe to the visuals.

The muted colors made the red spider eggs and red blood a lot more repulsive.

the creepy background sounds adds a real feeling of dread to the whole piece.

You've made a really scary short.

This was really cool.

thegViantpath responds:

Thank you kind sir. Your compliment means a lot. And it feels really great when someone spells out the gOod points about your work. Thank you for the earnest review.

You got an interesting concept but I would to see stronger emphasis on character emotion and body language.

You can act out the emotion and body language for various pose ideas.

You did have a few character poses and emotion.

It can be slightly enhanced by using increased exaggeration.

taking it a step farther never hurts.

Stronger poses and display of emotion will liven up a conversation between two characters.

You don't even need to add any more movement into the animation.

I loved the voice that you picked for Kirby.

Kirby has a super cute voice.

Keep making those animatics.

Evy-Devy responds:

Thanks for the feedback. So you're basically saying I need to put more expressive poses. If I did a big number of unnecessary poses, it would make the animation longer and make it harder to work on it but I do see that using too little poses can make the animation feel bland or not as funny. I'll work on trying to make the poses funnier and more unique since that is something I think I've been lacking in my animations/animatics. I'm glad you like Kirby's voice! It IS cute! Thanks once again and I'll continue to work on animatics!

Your movie was a bit amateurish but the overall result really was far more well executed than it needs to be.

a dedicated amateur can sometimes accomplish more than a professional artist.

You'll evolve to professional level faster than other artists because of your hard work.

You've really shown your homework in this submission.

I really love how you used more pencil strokes than average to draw everything.

You'll teach yourself a lot more from extra pencil strokes instead of less.

You are great at posing your characters.

Most budding artists don't make any attempts at treating the characters as 3D objects.

Most new artists don't attempt such complex animation techniques and usually stay inside their comfort zone.

My only advice is to study some human anatomy and keep doing your complex animation techniques.

Your animation will become more steady as you become more comfortable controlling every detail.

You are already on the right track.

I look forward to seeing how your future artwork evolves over time.

You created something Awesome.

Keep going.

xaalster responds:

Thanks alot man. yeah alot this stuff is from over a year ago but if you want to see some of my newer stuff just check out my youtube channel. all my animations and are on there and easy to find. I am curious though when you say the anatomy is off what part of it is? Asking because ive gotten this critisim before.

You did a great job on drawing the weaponry but the perspective looks a bit strange.

The way the soldiers are standing and moving is not really appropriate for the background used.

It's an overhead shot combined with ground level soldiers.

The angle you selected would mostly show the top of the soldiers head.

This is going to be a difficult angle to work with.

When drawing a new angle.

be sure to draw a bit more slowly since attempting difficult angles can sometimes make focusing on the lines a bit harder.

you've attempted a pretty advanced drawing skill.

Perspective is not easy but you'll master it with a bit of practice.

Keep trying and stay motivated.

as for my other criticism.

Just make the movie a bit longer since good characters, a story and plenty of action will make for an entertaining stick figure movie.

better luck next time.

Thestickanimator responds:

Ok, thanks for the tips

This is actually a pretty cool intro but the animation moved a bit too fast for me to really fully comprehend everything seen.

It obviously has a very high frame rate.

The animation moved a bit too fast for me to really soak everything in.

I really wish programs like flash had capabilities for easy frame rate modulation.

I often wanted to change the frame rates within the same cartoon simply because certain actions require changing speeds.

The Cape moving fast in the wind effect was perfect.

My main criticism about your intro is about finding a way to slow down certain actions to make it more visible to the viewer.

The first shot of the spaceship coming out the worm hole.

The spaceship moves close enough to the character that you see the first character.

Than the camera zip pans to a scientist looking dinosaur.

and than three dinosaurs bop up and down to simulate walking to create another pan.

all of those actions is a lot to process in only nine seconds.

That scene could be timed a bit more slowly to make it read better on the screen.

I had to rewatch that part a few times just to catch everything in those 9 seconds.

This shot can be slowed down to really let the viewer soak it all in.

The shot of the three dinosaurs looking at moving planets was a cool shot.

I like a lot of the 3D shots in your intro.

You are starting to treat your characters as 3D objects.

You'll move those characters more loosely as you get better at constructing your character drawings and improve control over your details.

I once animated stick figures for years and eventually learned how to move them more three dimensionally.

You learn better control over details as you get better.

Good drawing is not just about applying lots of details but having total control over those details.

Your already starting to make attempts at moving those dinosaurs three dimensionally.

I predict the dinosaurs will be animated a bit looser and more lively over time.

For future intros of your series.

slow down the animation and let the viewer soak everything.

Other than that one negative criticism about the animation speed in your intro.

It's still really cool and shows a lot of obvious hard work.

This was a decent movie.

DynoStorm responds:

Cheers. There's only so much I can do about speed if I still want it to match the track but I'll think of somethin'

I created cartoons for newgrounds since 2003 and collaborated with artists such as livecorpse, Billy Monks and others.
I'm also known as PowerRangerYELLOW on my alt account.
I hope to make more cartoons soon.
