A very entertaining trailer for your animated series.

I love how the trailer quickly sales itself without unnecessary time filler.

The trailer would be way too short if it were an actual movie.

A trailer acts as a free sample and is intended to grab your attention.

The trailer highlights the camera effects moving with the characters.

I noticed the great fighting poses in the stick figure animation.

The trailer needed more emphasis on displaying the show's title.

You want to make certain that title is remembered.

An effective trailer is not only entertaining but also sales itself.

You did an excellent job at promoting your animated series.

The trailer wasted no time in highlighting the cool stuff about your cartoon.

I look forward to watching more of your work.

The narration made a lot sense out of the details in this stick figure battle movie.

I love the added touch of on-screen text to represent character names upon introduction.

The character animations moved with your characters.

The stick figures have better poses than lots of other submissions.

Creating dynamic poses can be transfered onto other forms of drawing.

Nicely done and very entertaining.

I will review the other episodes later.

LetThereBeLenny responds:

thank you brother!

The first 16 seconds of your animation were very attention grabbing.

I love how you created animation using image manipulation programs.

I assume the frames were collected into a video editor program.

I love the multiple camera angles.

I love the visual variety in your short animation.

I assume you wanted feedback before moving forward.

You just need to make the intro a lot longer.

Upload the complete movie and I will be able to provide more in-depth feedback.

I look forward to seeing the finished product.

You are off to a good start.

This remake has shown clear improvement from the original; However, most people will not have enough patience to watch both versions.

I will be making comparisons between the two versions for this review.

The original version of this movie had some very bad voice acting.

The characters lacked distinct voices for each character in the original super smash whatever.

The voices in the original were obviously done by the same guy.

The remake makes an improvement by giving each character their own distinct voice.

Some actors have an amazing ability to create lots of distinct voices without being recognized.

That kind of talent with voice acting is not very common.

I often recognize someone's voice despite the disguise.

You may need to use more than one voice actor in most circumstances.

Each character in your cartoon needs to have distinct voices to breathe life into them.

Distinct voices are sometimes created by a single talented individual, multiple actors or an audio manipulation in a program.

I'm pleased to notice an improvement on the voice acting in comparison to the original.

The distinct voices for each character is merely one aspect with voice acting.

Another element of voice acting is the actual acting itself.

Voices not only have to be distinct but also need emotional content.

The acting in the original version needed more emotion placed in their individual performance.

The actors shown an increased investment into fantasy.

The voice acting in the original version was extremely bad.

The voice acting in the remake is significantly better in terms of performance and character voice distinction.

Other reviews already covered criticism about the actual audio and has rendered that area as irrelevant for this review.

The remake placed more effort into working out the poses.

I liked the animation poses better in the new version.

The original version used more expressive facial expressions for the characters.

You should have placed the same emphasis or increased emphasis onto drawing an expressive face.

Combine the improved poses of the remake with the expressive poses of the original.

I already mentioned the importance of animation poses in pervious reviews of your kirby submission.

I'm glad you are now placing a higher emphasis on poses now.

Good animation poses are far more important than creating smooth animation.

Smooth animation becomes more easily done with good posing and past experience.

You will get better and better with practice.

Remember to place an emphasis on drawing both an expressive face and expressive body.

Poses and playing around with the facial expressions are both important tools.

The way you draw hands can use a lot of improvement.

Take extra time into observing your own hand while drawing.

Look at your hand carefully and use the other hand for drawing.

You might sometimes need to switch drawing hands while observing.

If you are right-handed and need to draw the right hand.

You draw with the right-hand with your left-hand.

You may sometimes need to draw with your less dominant hand in certain circumstances.

If you are not satisfied with the less dominant hand drawing.

You can easily make fixes using your more dominant hand because the details were already observed.

Observation is very important for drawing.

Take extra time into observing the needed details for each drawing.

You will be able to draw more complex drawings from memory after enough practice.

The way you draw guns can use some improvement.

Get some detailed toy guns to help with observation.

Pay close attention to your hand holding a toy gun while drawing.

Some of the drawings leave a few uncolored areas and gaps.

0:17 - The announcer has an uncolored area between his eyebrows and hair.

His bow tie also has an uncolored gap too.

0:26 - The kid has a great pose.

He clearly demonstrates discomfort in his body language.

His facial expression also demonstrates discomfort and bewilderment.

The drawings in this remake has improved since the original.

I personally would rather watch an entirely new cartoon instead of a remake.

You can now do new things with your improved drawing skills.

The remake lost some of the charm of the original movie.

If you could retain the charm of the original while adding increased polish.

Than it would be the perfect remake.

The remake could also have a charm to it.

A Remake can simply be it's own distinct entity.

You are honestly better off with creating new stuff instead.

Keep creating new drawings and making brand new cartoons.

Stick with it.

You have gotten better since your past submission.

I been looking forward to this new episode of Fay.

The drawings have improved since the pervious episodes of this series.

This show never really answers any questions about Fay's androgynous nature.

Not answering any questions about Fay's ambiguous gender creates a certain mysterious aura around him.

The focus of the episode is on how Fay interacts with the world around him.

Fay is universally hated by his peers.

This movie should have explored Fay's other relationships including his family.

The other episodes contain some very important information about Fay's character.

References to pervious episodes would have strengthened your narrative.

Pervious episodes contained a lot of important information important to this submission's story.

Each episode of this series act as stand alone cartoons; However, an increased attention to continuity will make more effective storylines.

I love your use of a different animation techniques to represent thoughts inside Fay's head.

A lot of your visuals were very strange and certain background animations were ominous.

You still have a few uncolored areas; However, the backgrounds have increased detail since your pervious submissions.

More detail means that it becomes more difficult to spot mistakes.

Increased detail means a longer time in the clean up stages.

The dead people in your movie could use a bit more detail in the drawings.

Do an internet search for appropriate images to use as reference material.

If you have a camera than you can easily take pictures of buildings, clouds, trees and other forms of potential reference material.

Your one city background was simply a series of square buildings.

A city is actually very hard to draw and most people draw a simple series of square buildings.

A city is full of buildings in an entire variety of shapes.

Look at photos of a city and practice drawing the buildings.

If you live in an actual city than you can use your own surroundings as reference material for drawing.

Keep making these new episodes of The Fay Series.

This is your best work so far.

Don't give up.

This submission has an interesting visual style.

I found the live action backgrounds to be off-putting.

Lets ignore the live action backgrounds for the rest of this review.

I love how you place a lot of effort into working out the poses.

The stick figures have some very great fighting poses within the animation.

The stick animation would look more polished if lights and shadows were applied.

The lights and shadows on your stick figures could interact with the environments.

I enjoy seeing the characters move with the backgrounds.

That is a really cool animation technique and I may need to steal that trick.

This movie looks promising.

You are off to a good start.

LetThereBeLenny responds:

thanks for the review! i really appreciate your advice, the entire movie is actually right here in 4 episodes

http://www.newgrounds.com/playlists/view/4e98d118d234560a4131e23d84815588

please watch them! i would love to hear what you think of them seriously!

This quick little gag made for entertaining submission of a few seconds.

Usually 11 seconds is way too short for a cartoon.

A limited amount of time means proving your point quickly.

I think that has been accomplished with your movie.

The voice actors did a great job.

Your cartoon was based on a web comic; However, the characters in your cartoon display more emotion.

The annoyed man had more convincing emotion.

His body language more effectively sold annoyance in this submission when compared to the original web comic.

This cartoon has really improve upon that web comic.

Good work.

- Mightydein

I noticed some uncolored areas and gaps on the pine apple character.

Take extra time into searching for uncolored areas and fill them in.

Most animation programs have a zoom-in and zoom-out feature.

Use different shades of white for eyes, teeth and other things.

Two objects can be the same color but in different shades of color.

Play around with your colors more often.

Your characters could use some more lively poses even just for a conversation.

Real people often move their hands during conversation to hold your attention.

If you are uninterested in the topic of conversation; The person talking to you becomes increasingly animated.

Your talking characters need to display more body language and facial expression during conversation.

The two characters only moved their lips during conversation.

Body language is a missing element in the conversation between your two characters.

Try to imagine watching your cartoon without sound.

Would it still be entertainment without the added element of sound?

Sound added a lot to your cartoon.

The audio was very humorous and some of the sight gags were very silly.

That pineapple character looks silly.

You are on the right-track by using sight gags and playing around with the camera.

You just need to play around with the body language of your characters more often.

Megacharlie responds:

Thanks for the suggestions, but we did make this in about 1 hour XD

I'm currently working on a new episode of Stretchyman (my main cartoon) and I've been working on it for about a month and a half now XD

Thanks!

The animation for your movie was choppy in a lot of places; However, I'm pleased to notice careful attention placed into the poses.

I love the exaggerated poses combined with some squash and stretch technique.

The character design for your character looked crude.

You used a lot of very basic shapes for the character's facial features.

A bit more detail could make the character design more polished; However, animation becomes increasingly difficult to create with added detail.

Understanding the human form will help you with creating a stylised versions of human characters.

People watching will give you a lot of inspiration for character designs.

The way you draw hands needs a bit of work.

Take the time to observe your subjects in full detail.

Draw your subject based on these observations.

You can still simplify the forms of your drawings while making observations.

Movement of your drawings is more important than an unnecessarily high workload placed into detail.

You want to include good drawings combined with the illusion of movement.

Keep experimenting with your animation and continue trying new things.

You are on the right track.

cecameron responds:

This is an excellent critique, I just find it odd you'd leave it on such a quick project - I'm interested in what you'd have to say for some of my other works.
Thank you for the comment!

I like how you placed your own twist onto your drawings of Homer simpson and Peter griffin.

The voice impressions of each character were bad and laughable.

The bad impressions add an extra layer of comedy to this submission.

The way homer said, "Doh" was very funny.

I don't get your slenderman references because of my lack of knowledge about that video game.

I would have liked to see more lively poses in your animation.

Peter and homer just stood there.

Most of the humor of that scene needed the voice acting.

Practice creating more dynamic poses for your characters.

The slender man section of your movie had much more visually appealing animation.

The slender man section shown a lot more experimentation with the drawings.

You could have done more experimentation in the familyguy/simpsons section as well.

Play around with the colored outlines, backgrounds, drawing style, ect.

Just be sure to have fun playing around with all of the visual elements inside your cartoon.

You created a funny cartoon but with some more playing around with the animation.

You can also make the silly cartoon a bit more visually engaging.

Keep animating and always try new things.

- Mightydein

GuiltyPixel responds:

Thanks for the constructive criticism. :D I'm working on trying to get better with poses and anatomy right now, and also backgrounds. And I also need to get better at animating movements while they're talking so it's not boring.

I created cartoons for newgrounds since 2003 and collaborated with artists such as livecorpse, Billy Monks and others.
I'm also known as PowerRangerYELLOW on my alt account.
I hope to make more cartoons soon.
